Imphal, February 02 2015:
Digging of roads to lay pipes and construction of trenches for the ongoing Sewerage Project have been left unattended in Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency areas causing immense inconvenience to the public leading to near total confusion.
Highlighting the woes faced by the people of the area, the Publicity Secretary of Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) Konsam Surjit warned that if the situation was not brought to normal and if the roads are not properly constructed by February 10, the organisation will be compelled to shut down all ongoing works related to Sewerage Project in the constituency.
Surjit further said the ongoing work was launched in Thangmeiband Constituency as a pilot project by Public Health Engineering Department of Government of Manipur.
The roads were black-topped recently but the same was dug up again and left unattended and left in deplorable condition.
The areas affected by the project are Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai; Khomdram Sellungba Leika; Maisnam Leika; Kabrabam Leikai and Muzikhul.
Surjit further asked who will be held responsible for the sorry state of affairs if the pilot project fails.
He opined that projects may come and go but it was the residents of Thangmeband who would ultimately bear the brunt of the Government's callous attitude.
He also informed that there was a lot left to be done for the ongoing work alleging that even the engineers authorized to oversee the works did not even bother to visit the site.
