IEC campaign and cleanliness drive strengthens solid waste management efforts in Tamenglong

In a concerted effort to promote environmental cleanliness and sustainable waste management practices, an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign coupled with a Solid Waste Management (SWM) drive was successfully conducted in Tamenglong on Saturday.
The programme was organised by the Small Town Committee (STC), Autonomous District Council (ADC), Tamenglong, in collaboration with the Women Society of New Salem, Ward no 4, Tamenglong.
As part of the campaign, a cleanliness drive was carried out along the stretch from Rani Market to Medical Gate, Tamenglong, covering public spaces, roadsides and other areas prone to waste accumulation.
The initiative aimed to enhance public awareness on maintaining clean and healthy environment while encouraging responsible waste disposable practices.
A public awareness campaign was also conducted through a public announcement system, highlighting the importance of proper solid waste management.
Key messages focused on waste segregation at source, proper disposal of household waste, avoidance of littering, and active community participation in maintaining cleanliness.
During the drive, a full truckload of waste was collected and transported for proper disposal, significantly improving the cleanliness of the targeted areas.
To encourage greater participation in sanitation and cleanliness activities, the Executive Officer of the Small Town Committee, Tamenglong, distributed 20 locally made brooms to members of the Women Society, New Salem.
Altogether, 75 participants took part in the IEC and Solid Waste Management campaign.
