Kakching, May 29 2026:
Normal life in Kakching district was disrupted on Friday following a bandh called inprotest against the transfer order of the Principal of Kakching Higher Secondary School.
The agitation, spearheaded by students of the school, has been continuing since May 22 with various forms of protest including class boycott and hunger strike demanding revocation of the transfer order.
As the bandh came into effect from midnight, educational institutions across Kakching remained closed while Kakching Keithel wore a deserted look.
Business establishments downed shutters and passenger transport services operating within the district and to other parts of the State were also suspended.
During the bandh, students of Kakching Higher Secondary School staged a protest in front of the school gate by occupying the middle of the road.
A team of Kakching police later arrived at the spot and asked the students to clear the road.
A brief altercation reportedly took place between the protesting students and police personnel, though no other major untoward incident was reported during the protest.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Students' Union later met Wabagai Assembly Constituency MLA U Deben and the Joint Director of Education (S) to discuss the matter.
Following the meeting.
Magazine Secretary of the Students' Union, Moirangthem Googal stated that they received a positive response from the authorities and subsequently decided to temporarily suspend the bandh and hunger strike agitation.
However, he clarified that the ongoing class boycott and closure of school administrative activities would continue until an official order revoking the transfer of the Principal is issued.
