Imphal, July 28 2026: The 134th birth anniversary of renowned Manipuri poet Hijam Anganghal was observed at the auditorium of Ibenthou Resort, Hanubi Ching, Loktak, on Tuesday.

The programme was jointly organised by the Poets Foundation, Manipur Chapter, and Sahitya Thoupang Lup (Sathou Lup).

According to a release issued by Sahitya Thoupang Lup, the event was attended by Poets Foundation, Manipur Chapter chairman Saratchand Thiyam; Sahitya Thoupang Lup advisor B Bishambhor Sharma; Loktak Khorjeilup president Birbabu Laishram; Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang; and Fiction and Poetry Club president Thoudam Netrajit as presidium members.

The programme commenced with a recitation of Hijam Anganghal's poem 'Thoubandong Ningaidabi' by writer Rakesh Naorem.

Scholar Oinam Chitaranjan also delivered a talk on the topic, "Anganghal and Today".

As part of the observance, poets and writers from across the State paid floral tributes to the portrait of the late poet Hijam Anganghal.

Later, 25 poets from different parts of the State participated in a poetry reading session, presenting their works as part of the commemorative programme.
