AIMS writes to Chief Minister to improve sports infrastructure

Imphal, March 28 2026: Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) has written to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand seeking his attention to improve the State sports infrastructure.

Manipur is known as the powerhouse of sports and has produced many sports personalities like Nilakamal, Thoiba, Kunjarani, Mirabai Chanu, Dingko Singh, Mary Kom, Sarita and Kennedy etc.

Yet, there are no regular coaches in many fields including Boxing, Judo, Gymnastics, Hockey, Football, Taekwondo, Fencing, Canoeing and Kayaking, Cycling, Badminton, Weightlifting, and indigenous games, said AIMS in its letter to the CM.

Without proper coaches, the State may fail to produce any more sporting talents, it said, urging the CM to take steps to appoint necessary coaches.

It further urged the CM to review the existing sporting infrastructure, and launch a massive afforestation drive in the Khuman Lampak Sports complex by planning bamboo and fruit bearing trees.

It also urged the CM to consider establishing a high-altitude sports training centre at the Khamasom Walely in the Ango range in Ukhrul district which stands at 6,397 feet altitude and lies 38 kilometres from the Ukhrul town.
