Manipur flood: Committee seeks Government intervention

The Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC), Heingang Mayai Leikai has urged the relevant authorities to inspect the sites at Heingang which were devastated by the recent floods and provide adequate compensations to the affected victims.
(JCC), Heingang Mayai Leikai is a joint body comprising four local clubs from Heingang.
Speaking to the media while inspecting the flood affected sites, convenor of JCC, Heingang Mayai Leikai Tayenjam Shanta stated that the Imphal River's embankment, spanning around 200 meters on the eastern side of Heingang Mayai Leikai, collapsed on the morning of May 31.He claimed that the construction of retaining walls without proper quality was one of the primary factors contributing to the collapse of the river's embankment.
About 17 houses at Heingang were washed away by the water overflowing from the Imphal River, while as many as 230 families were affected, he said.
He stated that the Imphal East Deputy Commissioner had not visited even once to assess the conditions of the flood-affected people at Heingang.
Saying that the Government has not provided any compensation to the flood victims, he urged the authorities concerned to provide adequate compensation to the flood victims.
