Rich tributes paid to Lamyanba Irabot on 74th death anniversary

Imphal, September 26 2025: Manipur paid its rich tributes to the freedom warrior, social activist, politician - Lamyanba Hijam Irabot on his 74th death anniversary.

Considered as the father of modem Manipur, Lamyanba Irabot was a versatile personality who made his mark as a writer, politician, journalist and a true revolutionary.

Lamyanba Irabot, bom on September 30, 1896, stood up boldly and fought relentlessly against all kinds of exploitation prevalent during the period.

The Irawat Celebration Committee (ICC), Manipur observed the "74th death anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot: State Mourn Day" at Irawat Bhavan, BT Road, Imphal today.

The observation ceremony was held at the campus of the Irawat Bhavan where the first statue of the political leader was erected.

The event was graced by dignitaries including Langol Iboyaima, former chairman, CPI/MSC State Control Commission; L Sotinkumar, former secretary, CPI/MSC; and Dr M Nara Singh, chairman, ICC Manipur.

During the event, Langol Iboyaima led the gathering in paying floral tribdte on the memorial bust of the revolutionary social activist.

Moreover, ICC Manipur has announced the recipients of 'Irabot Ningshing Mana' for the year 2025.As per a release issued by M Joykumar Luwang, secretary of ICC Manipur, the Committee has been presenting the award for the past few years to individuals for their remarkable contributions in different aspects including media, education, arts and literature.

The names of the individuals who will be honoured are as follows-

'Jananeta Irabot Mana-Exceptional Person' will be awarded to Heisnam Sabitri Devi;
'Moirangthem Ibohal Ningshing Mana' to Ningthoukhongjam Moirangningthou;
'Thiyam Meghachandra Journalist Award' to Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, editor of Kangleipakki Meira;
'N Beni Women Social Activist Award' to Ibetombi Devi, former president of Manipur Nupi Marup;
'Thokchom Achouba Integrity Award' to KS Raihing, former convenor of Federation of Haomee;
'Environmentalist award' to Maibam Ningol Memma Devi;
'Thingbaijam Nongyai Labour Award' will be presented to Inaomacha Leima;
'Thangjam Babu Best Farmer Award' to Wareppam Amarjit;
'N Ibotombi Best Teacher Award' to Kangabam Devrani Devi, Assistant Teacher, Irilbung High School;
'Thingbaijam Ngangbi Memorial Teacher Award' to Kh Pumimashi Devi;
'Theatre Activist Award' to Kshetri Sanajaoba;
'Manipur Cultural (Dance & Song) Award' to Ngangom Ibopishak Singh;
'Literary Award' to Moirangthem Rajen Singh; and 'Shumang Leela Vocalist Award' to Hawaibam Nilamani Singh.

The 'Laishram Ramsingh Trade Union Award' will also be presented to scheme workers of Heirok and Thanga, and AITUC.

The awards will be presented to the respective individuals on the occasion of the 129th birth anniversary celebration of Jananeta Hijam Irabot on September 30 which will be held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen.

All the prizes carry a citation, a cash award and a shawl.

Similarly, the-74th death anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was also observed today at Nungsikol Park in Chana, jointly organised by Kanglei Yelhou Cheingak and Chana Lukhoi Arts Centre.

Irabot Memorial Trust Keibi also observed the 74th death anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot at Irabot Memorial Eco Tourism Destination Park in Keibi Mana Ching.

It was attended by Irabot Memorial Trust Keibi founder president Ningthoukhongjam Moirangninthou Meetei, president Laishram Gunindro and Haobam Yaishkul among others.

Performance of patriotic songs and offering of floral tributes to Lamyanba Irabot were the main highlights of the event.

Meanwhile, Manipur State Council- All India Youth Federation (MSC-AIYF) and Manipur State Council - All India Students Federation (MSC-AISF) jointly organised a blood donation camp at JNIMS, Imphal today to commemorate the death anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot.
