Kargil Vijay Diwas observed in Imphal with tribute to martyrs

Imphal, July 26 2026:
Rajya SainikBoard Manipur, in coordination with Akhil Bhartiya Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad, Manipur Prant, observed Kargil Vijay Diwas with solemnity at Lamphel on Sunday.
More than 200 veterans, family members, Veer Naris and widows attended the event.
A "Bada Khana" was also organised for all participants.
The programme began with a one-minute silence in memory of the six brave soldiers from Manipur who made the supreme sacrifice in the Kargil War: Sep K Ashuli Mao, Vir Chakra; Nk Kalleshor; Hav H Adahrini, SM; LNK S Gameithang; Sep NG Beningvir Moyon; and Sep Chara Nicholas Moyon.
Lt Gen L Nishikanta Singh, VSM (retired), attended as chief guest.
He said Manipur has around 17,000 ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and widows, the second highest in the Northeast.
He added that while Assam has over 50,000 ex-servicemen, Manipur has the highest number of gallantry award winners in the region.
He stressed that resettlement and welfare of defence personnel who retire early remains a priority.
The function was presided over by Brig LI Singh, YSM (retired); Col T Robindro Sharma (retired) and Lt Col M Ranjit Singh (retired) attended as guests of honour.
A free blood test camp was held by NGO Sound Mind with Ayush Hospital, Singjamei.
Veer Naris and widows were also felicitated.
