Assam Rifles marks 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas with patriotic, humanitarian initiatives across Manipur

Tbl/Kak/Cdl/Tpl/CCpur, July 25 2026: Assam Rifles organised a series of patriotic outreach programmes, youth engagements and humanitarian initiatives across Thoubal, Kakching, Chandel, Tengnoupal and Churachandpur districts on Saturday, on the eve of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Observed annually on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India's victory in the 1999 Kargil War and honours the valour and supreme sacrifice of the armed forces in defending the nation's integrity under challenging conditions.

According to a release issued by IGAR (South), the coordinated activities were aimed at fostering patriotic values among youths, encouraging civic participation and strengthening civil-military relations across the State.

At Khongjom Standard English Hr School in Thoubal district, around 100 students, NCC cadets, teachers and school staff attended a video screening showcasing the valour of Indian soldiers during the Kargil War, followed by a patriotic quiz and prize distribution.

In Chandel, the programmes witnessed the participation of 137 civilians, including 89 students, nine teachers, 17 villagers and local representatives, including the village chief and secretary of Phaisangjang, along with Assam Rifles personnel.

The proceedings at Molcham in Chandel, began with the hoisting of the National Flag and solemn tributes to the war heroes, followed by a Tiranga Rally through surrounding areas, an interactive patriotic presentation, screening of a Kargil War documentary and motivational videos on joining the armed forces.

The programme concluded with a community lunch.

At Yangoulen Primary School, Phaisangjang, the event commenced with the National Anthem and tributes to the Kargil heroes, followed by interactive sessions involving personnel, students, teachers and village leaders on national service and unity.

Meanwhile, at Mombi village in Kakching district, a friendly volleyball match between local youths and Assam Rifles personnel was organised to promote sportsmanship and camaraderie.

A subsequent liaison session discussed issues concerning youths, education, regional development and security.

In Tengnoupal district, an awareness programme was conducted for 80 students and six teachers.

The programme featured an informative presentation on the operational significance of the Kargil conflict and the values of national unity, along with a patriotic drawing competition and quiz contest aimed at enhancing students' understanding of military history.

In Churachandpur, the commemoration was combined with humanitarian assistance through a medical camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and local residents at Bullian Primary School, Bullian village, Khuga.

Organised in collaboration with Metrozone Health Services, Emmanuel Hospital Association, Churachandpur Medical College Hospital and Tunnu School of Nursing, the initiative involved nine doctors, nursing students, pharmacists, support staff and Assam Rifles personnel, with a total team strength of 68.Free medical consultations and treatment were provided to 392 beneficiaries, comprising 163 men and 229 women.

The cases included 87 general medicine, 79 geriatric, 65 paediatric.

64 gynaecology, 54 dental and 43 surgical cases.

Additionally, 26 pregnant and lactating women were provided ante-natal and post-natal care kits.

The series of programmes combined remembrance of the nation's fallen heroes with meaningful community engagement and humanitarian assistance, underscoring the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas while strengthening the bond between the security forces and the people of Manipur.
