In response to the attempted kidnapping of two minor girls allegedly by an Assam Rifles jawan (driver), the Tangkhul Shanao Long and Kamphasom Shanao Long staged a sit-in protest at Phungreitang in Ukhrul today demanding fitting punishment for the perpetrator.
According to the protesters, the alleged culprit has been identified as Madan Singh from Uttarakhand, a "jawan driver of 18 Assam Rifles" .
The attempted kidnapping occurred yesterday at 12.15 pm near Bethel Clinic Kamphasom, Ukhrul.
The jawan reportedly pulled the two minor girls and tried to push them inside a Bolero through the rear door in broad daylight.
Fortunately, passers-by who noticed the incident rescued the duo from the site.
Following this, a complaint was filed by the parents against the AR jawan at Ukhrul police station.
He was picked up by the Ukhrul police team around 1 pm yesterday.
According to a source available to this correspondent, the police has conducted a preliminary investigation for initiation of necessary procedure as per the law.
However, the AR jawan was released after signing a personal release bond at Ukhrul police station yesterday itself.
