MTU Disaster Management Cell promotes inclusive disaster preparedness at Ideal Blind School

Imphal, July 23 2026: The Disaster Management Cell of Manipur Technical University (MTU) conducted a targeted outreach programme at the Government Ideal Blind School, Takyelpat, focusing on disaster awareness for visually impaired students.

During the visit, the MTU team distributed copies of "Do's and Don'ts for Common Disasters" printed entirely in Braille.

The resource, sourced from the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Rohini, aims to give students direct access to lifesaving emergency information.

Two copies were also donated to the MTU library to expand campus accessibility.

An interactive session was held to assess students' understanding of disaster preparedness find to identify challenges they face during emergencies.

Based on these inputs, MTU faculty committed to developing a specialized Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) pedagogy manual for visually impaired persons.

The manual will emphasize experiential, non-visual learning, spatial orientation, accessible communication, and multisensory instruction.

It will be prepared in collaboration with teachers of the Ideal Blind School.

Both teams agreed to organise a comprehensive disaster awareness programme soon to strengthen practical preparedness.

The MTU Cell expressed gratitude to Headmistress Mangibala Huirem for her support in making the initiative inclusive and impactful.
