'Stop extortion in education sector'

Imphal, September 20 2026: Founder director of Prism Higher Secondary School, T Kishan has appealed to certain groups to stop demanding monetary donations from private educational institutions, stating that the education sector has already been severely affected by the ongoing violent crisis in the State.

He was speaking at a felicitation programme for students held yesterday at the school located at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai.

Around 200 students of the school who passed the Council pf Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) examination 2025-26 were felicitated with awards.

Kishan said it is very unfortunate that instead of supporting those who are striving to bring some change in the education sector, attempts are being made to collect huge amounts in the name of donation.

He urged Civil Society Organisations and student bodies in the State to look into the matter seriously.

Stating that a better future and a disciplined society can be built only when the education sector is made a free zone, he said the violence that erupted in the State since May 3, 2023 has affected all sectors including education.

Teachers are facing many challenges in completing syllabus during the crisis.

Students also need to put in dedicated efforts, he added.

He said the school has been providing free education to 20 displaced students every year since the beginning of the crisis.

Considering the hardships caused by the crisis, the school has also not collected admission fees for Class XI till today, he added.
