Awareness drive on illegal poppy cultivation held in Senapati

Imphal, August 20 2025:
A one-day legal awareness programme on illegal poppy cultivation was organized today by the District Anti Narcotic Task Force of Senapati District Police at the SP Senapati Conference Hall.
The programme was attended by village chiefs, chairmen, and secretaries from Taphou Kuki, Willong, Maopundung, Ngatan, Sorbung, Makuilongdi, Maram Bazaar, Willong Khunou, Oklong Khunou, Khamsom Huphii, Pungdulong, Sadim Pukhri, Ngatan, Sorbung, Gorkha Samaj and Khabung Khunou.
In his address, SP Senapati SM Zaib Zakir, highlighted the legal liabilities of cultivating poppies and the dangers of drug abuse.
He appealed to the village leaders to extend cooperation to the police in ensuring zero cultivation of poppy in Senapati district during this cropping season.
A technical session was also conducted by Additional SP (National Highway-2) ML Kaisungbou, who serves as the Nodal Officer for the District Anti-Narcotic Task Force Senapati.
He explained the provisions under the ND & PS Act, 1985, through a detailed PowerPoint presentation.
Additional SP (Law & Order) Thangnokhochon Haokip, further elaborated on the ill effects of drugs on society, including their penetration into schools and families.
He urged village elders to extend full cooperation to law enforcement agencies in the fight against drugs for a safer and healthier future.
The programme was moderated by Inspector Prakash Bista, in-charge of the Store Section, Senapati SP Office, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Inspector Timothy Ronamai, OC Tungjong PS .
