Members of Joint Co-ordinating Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB) along with Honorary Wildlife Warden Thoubal, M Open and Sangai Protection Forum, vice-president, BK Singh seized 6 bird traps from Pumlen Pat while taking out a drive to check poaching of birds today.
Upon receiving information that birds are frequently trapped and killed at Pumlen Pat, a team of JCCWB along with Honorary Wildlife Warden Thoubal, M Open and Sangai Protection Forum, vice-president BK Singh conducted the drive and recovered 6 bird traps and 2 dead birds.
Speaking in this connection, JCCWB convenor, Romesh Ningthoujam said that even though there has been significant reduction in poaching of birds in some areas, trapping and killing of birds are still prevailing in some areas.
To cope with this, the Forest Department and club organisations have been taking preventive measures to ban poaching of wildlife animals and birds under Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and other similar acts, said Romesh.
