Imphal, March 15 2026:
The Meetei Erol Ey ek Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has appealed to the State's Education Department to include candidates proficient in Meitei Mayek script in the recruitment of around 1,140 pre-primary teachers.
Speaking at an oath-taking ceremony for Pana Loisang members in Imphal, MEELAL general secretary Paonam Thakaba highlighted the organisation's efforts to promote the language and script, noting Meitei Mayek is now taught up to university level.
However, he pointed out that a lack of translated books at the PG level and no dedicated Meitei Mayek teachers have created significant difficulties for students.
Thakaba warned of agitation if the Government ignores their request, stressing the need for qualified candidates in the current recruitment drive.
Key individuals including HERICOUN president Surjitkumar Khuman and MEELAL president in-charge Nongmailembi Leima were present at the event.
