Imphal, September 13 2025:
Khwairamband Nupi Keithel, Sinphal Amadi Saktam Kanba Lup submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister yesterday, hoping Modi to address key issues facing Manipur.
Despite the inordinate and incomprehensible delay, the Keithel Emas consider the visit of the PM as a positive sign, the Lup said.
In the memorandum, it urged the PM to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur to detect and deport illegal foreign Nationals.
It urged the PM to rehabilitate and allow internally displaced people from Moreh, Churachandpur and other places to return to their original residences.
Fencing of the border must be completed as soon as possible, and steps must be taken up to eradicate poppy cultivation/plantation, it said.
Further, necessary actions must be taken to curb illegal activities on the National Highways.
If the existential threats against indigenous peoples of Manipur are not addressed, and proper policies and programmes for overall growth and progress are not implemented, the PM's visit will be futile, it said.
