Facemask mandatory at RIMS premises

Imphal, June 12 2025: In response to rise in COVID-19 cases across the country and confirmation of a positive case in Manipur, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has reactivated its Emergency COVID-19 Management Committee to assess preparedness and implement precautionary measures.

In a press release issued Thursday, RIMS announced that wearing face masks is now mandatory within the hospital premises for anyone displaying flu like symptoms, along with their attendants.

Mask usage is also strongly recommended for all patients and visitors, regardless of symptoms, as a preventive measure.

The public are advised to maintain strict personal hygiene, particularly frequent hand-washing with soap and water or the use of alcohol-based sanitisers.

Individuals experiencing symptoms of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) - such as fever, cough, sore throat, or fatigue - are urged to seek prompt medical consultation.

Routine COVID-19 testing will not be conducted; however, patients exhibiting symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) or those considered at risk by attending physicians will be tested, the release informed, adding that RIMS shall adhere to the latest guidelines issued by the State Health Department.

The Institute reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of its patients, staff, and the broader community, calling on the public to cooperate fully with the measures in place so as help curb further transmission of the contagious disease.

As per national health updates, active COVID 19 cases in India have surpassed 7,154, with three additional fatalities reported on Thursday.
