Locals of Saiton demand release of village volunteer

Bishnupur, May 12 2025: Locals of Saiton Heiyaikon staged a protest demonstration today at Saiton demanding unconditional release of Nongthombam Meiraba (25), a village volunteer who had been reportedly arrested by NIA from his residence in Saiton Heiyaikon.

During the protest demonstration, Meira Paibis raised slogans such as "We condemn the arrest of village volunteers", "Release the village volunteers immediately", "We condemn arresting civilians", "Release Meiraba immediately without any condition" .

Speaking at the sideline of the protest, Heiyaikon Meira Paibi secretary, Aheibam Babita said that Meiraba who has been volunteering to safeguard his own village from Kuki aggression since the beginning of the conflict in the State was arrested by NIA on May 10 from his residence without furnishing any arrest memo.

Such an act of the NIA to arrest an innocent civilian who has been sacrificing his life to protect the innocent people of the red zone area is unfortunate and condemned at the strongest term, said Babita.

She also demanded immediate release of Meiraba at the earliest.
