Kalalong Thaninkhun village marks 160th foundation day

The 160th foundation day of Kalalong Thaninkhun village, along with the24thYouth Literary Day of Kalalong Youth Club, was celebrated with traditional fervour on Monday at the Thaninkhun Community Hall in Bishnupur district.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the sacred traditional fire from the village's centenary monolith, symbolising continuity of heritage and unity.
The event was attended by MLA of Bishnupur Assembly Constituency Govindas Konthoujam; Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam; and village chief of Thaninkhun, Th Langangpou, who graced the function as presidium members.
As part of the celebration, the foundation stone for the construction of a new public toilet at Thaninkhun village was laid.
The organisers also felicitated meritorious students of the village who have excelled in various fields, honouring them with gifts in recognition of their achievements.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Govindas Konthoujam said that despite the region being home to people of different faiths, the community has, for many years, upheld the principle of peaceful coexistence.
He remarked that the celebration of 160-years of the village stands as a testament to peaceful cohabitation among diverse communities, bound together by love and oneness.
Referring to the present economic challenges faced by the State, the MLA said that the enduring message of harmony conveyed by the village's long history underscores the belief that true development is possible only when people live together in peace and mutual respect.
Urging the people to forget and forgive past misunderstandings among communities, he called upon the people to collectively work towards building a progressive, harmonious and inclusive Manipur.
