Traditional Chiru attire documented and showcased at Bungte Chiru

With the aim of promoting and preserving the rich culture and traditions of the Chiru tribe, a special programme titled "Documentation & Showcasing of Traditional Chiru Attires" was held on Tuesday at the Bungte Chiru Village Community Hall in Kangpokpi district.
Organised by the Chiru Women Organisation, North East India, the event was held under the theme "Our Heritage, Our Identity" .
It brought together members of the Chiru community from various parts of the state, many of whom attended the programme adorned in traditional attire, vividly reflecting the tribe's cultural heritage.
The programme was attended by Dr Solomi Jatak, CMO (NFSG), Aruna Asaf Ali Government Hospital; MS Neichung, president of Chiru Union, NEI; Dr Th Sheilaza Popa, Medical Officer, CMO Pool, Bishnupur; and Sangreivon Popa, proprietor of Popa Cakes & Bites, as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, All Chiru Women Organisation president Thanglenchoi Thanga said the event was organised to promote and preserve the traditional culture, customs and attire of the Chiru tribe, which had been carefully preserved and embraced by their forefathers.
She stressed the importance of passing this heritage on to the younger generation so that they understand, respect and properly utilise their traditional identity.
Thanglenchoi also informed that detailed discussion was also held on the various types of traditional attires, highlighting when and on what occasions, rituals or ceremonies they are to be worn and used by members of the community.
With the arrival of the New Year 2026, she prayed for love, peace and mutual respect among all communities in Manipur and expressed hope for the restoration of lasting peace in the state.
