Elephants sighted at Kamjong

Imphal, September 05 2025:
Officials of the Forest Department sighted four wild elephants today in Kamjong district which borders Myanmar.
In light of this development, Chief Conservator of Forest (Wild life) L Joykumar (IFS) expressed pride saying that Manipur has become an "Elephant State" .
He said that department officials were able to capture photographs of wild elephants in the area between Chahong Khullen and Chatric Khun in Kamjong today.

This marks the first sighting of elephants in the State since 2002 when eight of these gentle giants were seen along the banks of Barak River.
To monitor and protect these newly sighted elephants, DFO of Kamjong district along with a police team have left for the village and are gearing up to take protective measures in consultation with the villagers.
