Team leaves for Andaman & Nicobar Islands to honour exiled heroes

A 22-member team led by Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Manipur secretary Rakesh Naorem left Imphal for Andaman & Nicobar Islands on Monday to trace the history of the Manipuri patriots who exiled there after the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.The team was flagged off from the Western Gate of the historic Kangla Fort by Khurai AC MLA Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, in the presence of PAWF Manipur former president Yaiskul Khwairakpam, president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, Susindro Meitei said that is the moral and cultural imperative for present generations to acknowledge, research, and preserve the history of their ancestors who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland.
Praising the team for the significant initiative, he said, "The expedition to Andaman & Nicobar Islands will ensure that the sacrifices and the stories of past generations are not forgotten, and will continue to inspire us to build a strong, united, and inclusive society".
Rakesh Naorem said that the PAWF Manipur, has an explicit objective to trace the history and roots of the Manipuri (especially the Meitei) diaspora residing outside the State, to help build a unified identity and safeguard their shared culture and traditions.
He also mentioned that during the 9-day expedition, the team will research and pay tribute to the 23 Manipuri patriots and other unsung heroes who were deported to the Andamans in 1891 following the Anglo-Manipur War.
