Imphal, February 04 2026:
Internally Displaced Persons of Mandop Yumpham Relief Camp staged a sit-in protest today, condemning security forces' alleged inaction during an attack on a resettlement assessment team at Kanto Premnagar on February 2 .
The protesters demanded time-bound resettlement and appealed to authorities to understand their hardships.
The demonstration held at the Relief Camp saw protesters wielding placards with messages such as "First free movement, next resettlement", "Remove buffer zone" etc.
Speaking in this connection, Ningombam Sushila, an inmate, said that as part of the Government's resettlement process, a team of officials including SDC Sekmai, OC of Sekmai police station, CRPF personnel and other Central security forces visited Kanto Premnagar on February 2 under the supervision of Imphal West Deputy Commissioner to assess the condition of Meitei houses in the area.
As a group of Kukis armed with deadly weapons chased the reassessment team and proceeded to pelt them with stones, the accompanying security personnel reportedly instructed them to run instead of offering protection, she alleged.
She questioned if security forces were trying to make "sacrificial lambs" out of IDPs .
Sushila urged newly sworn-in Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand to speed up resettlement and ensure displaced folks' right.
