Imphal, May 03 2026:
Residents of Bamol Kampu and Kalika breathed easy today as the bailey bridge linking the two villages was repaired and reopened after being unusable for over a year.
The bridge is the main transit point between the villages.
Locals said decayed wooden planks and other structural damage had made crossing hazardous, with several people falling into the river in the past year.
The closure hit daily life and farm work hard, especially with the cultivation season underway.
Kshetrigao AC MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan led the reconstruction, coordinated by Bamol Kampu Gram Panchayat Chairperson Irengbam Aken.
At a gathering to mark the reopening, villagers thanked the MLA and Chairperson for addressing the long-pending grievance.
Officials also announced that the iron bridge under construction next to the bailey bridge is slated for completion by December 2026.Residents welcomed the repair but urged the MLA and authorities to meet the December 2026 deadline for the permanent bridge.
