Edn Minister says Government schools gradually gaining trust of people

Imphal, January 03 2019: Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam said that a society will only flourish when proper education is imparted to the young minds.

He said education and health are the two most important sectors emphasized by the State Government.

Interacting with media persons at the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) office today, he said that the whole team of Education Department has come to discuss necessary steps and measures being taken up for a constructive change in the education sector of Manipur.

The Minister appealed to the people to refrain from spreading any false news regarding examinations and verify the facts before spreading any information on social media.' The Minister said that workshops are being held for smooth conduct of examination, setting of question papers, paper evaluation etc.

Steps have been taken up to exclude teachers who are taking private tuitions from the panel list of question setters and question moderators, he informed.

He said, BOSEM is putting maximum efforts to have a panel of competent examiners.

Radheshyam further informed that BOSEM has decided to convert all Private Centres in the State to Board Centre.

Highlighting that major steps are being initiated by the Department, Radheshyam said that Government schools are slowly gaining trust of the people as the number of students are increasing gradually.

Seeking support and cooperation of the people, he said that amalgamation of 247, schools at the nearby schools, which has better infrastructure, better connectivity, better student enrolment, will be carried out before the new academic session 2019-2020.In order to improve the overall pass percentage of Govt school students, remedial coaching classes for Govt school students appearing Class X and XII examinations have been initiated by the Department, he said.

The Minister added that 688 lecturers for 22 different subjects (including 42 posts of lecturers for 9 tribal dialects) have been recruited on contract basis for teaching students of class XI and XII.

Under the Lairik Tamhalasi scheme, Radheshyam said that out-of-school children under the age of 15-18 years were identified and admitted to formal schools.

He further informed that 11 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and nine residential schools established in the State (having classes from VI-VIII) have been upgraded to the status of high school which will be subsequently upgraded to Higher Secondary Schools..

The Minister added that 14 colleges have opened B Voc programmes in Food Processing, Fashion Technology, Tourism & Hospitality, Sericulture, Information & IT Service, Retail Management, IT/ITes, Beauty Therapist & Aesthetic, Graphic Design, Music Media & Entertainment, Floriculture & Landscaping, Health Care, Solar PV Installer, Physical Edn & Sports Nutrition and Hospitality Management.

The Manipur International University bill passed in the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2018 will contribute in enhancing the quality of higher education in the State, he noted.

During the press briefing, all the heads of different units of Education Dept, Commissioner, Education, H Deleep Singh, Director Education (S) Thokchom Kirankumar, Director of Higher & Technical Education, W Malemnganba, Director SCERT, M Meenakumari, Director Language planning & Implementation L Mahavir, Registrar, Manipur Technical University, Ng Bhogendra and other officials were also present.
