Imphal, January 02 2026: A solemn event to honors the valor and sacrifice of Maharaja Gambhir Singh, Maharaja Narasingh, Sana Herachandra and other unsung heroes who gave their lives for the motherland will be held at the Maharaja Gambhir Singh Memorial Complex in Langthabal on January 9,2026 at 1.30 pm.

The announcement was made today by veteran politician O Joy during a press conference held at his residence in Kakwa.

O Joy informed that the memorial event will be jointly organised by the Chahi Taret Khuntakpa Iningthou Gambhir Singh amadi Athoubasing Ningshing Lup Manipur, Athoubasinggi Liklam Thiba Lup Manipur, Imagi Meira Manipur, Langthabal Kendra Clubs Co-ordinating Committee Manipur, Langthabal Kendra Meira Paibi Co-ordinating Committee Manipur and Radio Listeners Guild Manipur.

He said that January 9 is a significant date in the history of Manipur as it marks the death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh, who played a significant role in restoring Manipur's sovereignty after the "Seven Years' Devastation (1819-1826)".O Joy continued that the day will also honour the brave heroes who gave their lives during the ongoing conflict.

Ex-Minister Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar, former MLA RK Anand and leaders of Imagi Meira Manipur and Langthabal Kendra Clubs Co-ordinating Committee Manipur were also present at the press conference.
