SHDDC suspends blockade ; Signs MoU with the state Government

Imphal, October 31 2011:
Along with signing of a memorandum of understanding with the state government late evening today, Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) has agreed to suspend the ongoing economic with immediate effect.
An MoU was signed between state government of Manipur represented by the Chief Secretary and SHDDC represented by its General Secretary today at the CM's Secretariat.
Accordingly, the government of Manipur has agreed to upgrade Sadar hills as full-fledged district at the earlier after submission of report of the District Re-organisation Committee and create six new sub-divisions/TD blocks namely Champhai, T Vaichong, Saikul, Island, Saitu-Gamphazol and Kangchup Geljang by bifurcating the existing three Sub-Divisions namely Kangpokpi, Saikul and Saitu-Gamphazol.
The government also agreed to withdraw all the legal cases against SHDDC leaders and volunteers and other legal involvement over the agitation.
As per the MoU the inauguration of the newly proposed three Sub-Divisions will be done within the month of November, 2011.The office of the SDO Champahi will be located at Kangpokpi temporarily till the construction of its office building at Champhai.
The MoU also mentioned the government is agreeable in principle for creation of Lhungtin SDC Circle within Saikul Sub-Division.
