Cabinet decides to close down Loktak Downstream Project

Imphal, July 29 2026:
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand chaired a Cabinet meeting today at the Cabinet Hall, New Secretariat, Mantripukhri.
The Cabinet meeting adopted a decision to close down the 66 MW Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Project and also to wind up the Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Corporation Limited (LDHCL) .
The State Cabinet also agreed on payment of stipend to foreign medical graduates, equivalent to that of Indian medical graduates in respect of JNIMS and Churachandpur Medical College.

In a social media post, Khemchand wrote "We deliberated on key policy matters and strategic initiatives to strengthen governance, accelerate development and advance the welfare of the people.
We remain committed to delivering transparent, responsive and people-centric governance for a stronger and more prosperous Manipur" .
Even though as many as 13 agenda were listed for the Cabinet meeting, it was known whether all the agenda were discussed or any other decisions were adopted.
