More arms, ammo surrendered

Imphal, February 26 2025: More individuals have come forward to surrender their arms and ammunition to the authorities today as the 7-day ultimatum served by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla nears its end.

The Governor made the appeal to return all illegal arms within seven days on February 20 (Thursday) .

Village volunteers from Thanga Assembly Constituency surrendered a cache of arms and ammunition including one double barrel gun, 23 live ammunition of 303 rifle, 12 live ammunition of 7.62, 11 live ammunition of 5.56, 25 empty case of 7.62 ammunition, 11 empty cases of 7.62 ammunition, three stun grenades, three bullet proof plates, one 51mm mortar shell, two magazine pouches, three helmets, five walkie talkie sets, one bullet proof jacket and one empty magazine of Insas rifle.

The surrender took place in the presence of Bishnupur SP Ksh Ravikumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Moirang, and Officer in-Charge of Keibul Lamjao police station.

At Khundrakpam, womenfolk and village volunteers of Pukhao surrendered one 9mm carbine with a magazine, one 303 rifle, one 12 bore double barrel gun, one country made rifle, five tube launchers (IA), one INSAS magazine, six live rounds of 303 ammunition, 11 live ammunition of 12 bore shotgun, four walkie talkie sets, one 36 HE hand grenade, six 80 WP grenades, two tear gas grenades, one smoke gas shell among other protective gears and ammunition to the Sagolmang Assam Rifles.

A number of arms and ammunition were also surrendered in Kakching today.

The surrendered arms include one SLR rifle, seven, 303 rifles, one carbine, eighteen single barrel guns, six double barrel guns, one airgun, four local made pistols, one country made pistol without a magazine, 13 HE grenades, one carbine magazine, one LMG magazine, one AK-47 rifle magazine, six INSAS magazines, six .303 magazines, two SLR magazines, one Baofeng handheld set, 10 pairs of boot, eighty five bullet proof vests, 24 bulletproof vests, 57 helmets, five 9 mm ammunition 31 live rounds of 7.62 ammunition, 68 live rounds of .303 live ammunition, twenty three live rounds of 5.56 ammunitions, 38 live rounds of AK rifle ammunition, 81 live rounds of carbine ammunition, seven mortar carriers, 12 mortar covers, 12 charger guides of .303 ammunition, 22 grenade cartridges, 20 tube launchers, one binocular, 25 cartridges and one magazine pouch.
