Construction of Guest House nears completion

The Guest House being constructed at Palace Compound, Imphal East is nearing completion and its inauguration will be possible within a short time.
Construction of the Guest House began at the initiative of Rajya Sabha Member and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba and ex-Chief Minister N Biren.
The Guest House is being constructed with funds from the North Eastern Council (NEC) and its estimated cost is Rs 7.1238 crore.
Tourism Department is the implementing agency and Manipur Police Housing Corporation is the work agency of the Guest House.
On hearing that the construction of the Guest House is nearing completion, a number of Tangkhul village chiefs came to Imphal and made a direct assessment of the construction work together with Leishemba Sanajaoba today.

Uttra Shanglen leaders, Tangkhul Naga Wunaolong president Tenyson and former Deputy Speaker Preshow Shimray were also among the village chiefs who made a direct assessment of the under-construction Guest House.
Speaking to media persons, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the Guest House, once completed, will be able to bring the hill people and plain people closer.
He said that the Guest House was envisaged considering the inconveniences faced by chiefs of hill villages regarding accommodation facilities when they come to attend Mera Hou Chongba festival.
The idea to build a guest house at Imphal for village chiefs from hill districts was first raised by ex-Chief Minister N Biren in 2016 when he was only an MLA, the titular king said.
Soon after Biren became the Chief Minister, necessary process was initiated to put the idea into action, Sanajaoba said.
He said that the Guest House was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the violent crisis which erupted in May, 2023.Noting that construction of the Guest House is nearing completion, the Rajya Sabha Member said that the Guest House will be handed over to the public soon.
The Guest House will facilitate greater interaction and strengthen the bond between hill people and plain people, he said.
He also lauded the pivotal role taken by ex-Chief Minister N Biren in constructing the Guest House.
Tangkhul Naga Wungnaolong president Tenyson and many Tangkhul village chiefs expressed gratitude for constructing a guest house at Imphal for village chiefs from hill districts.
They exuded confidence that the problem of accommodation faced by village chiefs from hill districts when they come to attend different events at Imphal, particularly Mera Hou Chongba will be solved by the Guest House.
They also expressed strong desire for construction of such a Guest House in the hills for accommodating Meitei people.
