Cong pays fitting tributes to Rishang Keishing

Imphal, August 22 2025: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed the 9th death anniversary of former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing at Congress Bhavan today.

During the ceremony, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, MPCC president K Meghachandra, Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam, former MP Dr Th Meinya, MLAs, and senior MPCC functionaries paid floral tributes to Rishang Keishing's photo.

Addressing the gathering, Okram Ibobi said the BJP's claims that Congress won't be able to form a Government again are merely an exercise of their freedom of expression.

However, he emphasized that the people's mandate cannot be dictated by the BJP.

Reminding that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections witnessed Congress's resounding victory in both seats in Manipur, he emphasized that the people hold the ultimate power and their mandate is paramount in a democratic Nation like India.

Ibobi added that the late Congress leader, Rishang Keishing, had championed peaceful coexistence among all communities and remained steadfast in his commitment to Manipur's integrity, even in his final days.

Saying that Rishang Keishing was a towering figure in Manipur's politics whose tenure as Chief Minister was marked by unwavering dedication to public service and safeguarding Manipur's integrity, he urged the people of Manipur to uphold the late leader's principles and ideology.

Later, a Congress delegation went to Rishang Keishing's residence at Mantripukhri and paid their homage to the late leader.
