ISBT comes back to life

After literally being abandoned to its own fate for almost 10 years, Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Khuman Lampak has come back to life.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla re-commissioned the renovated ISBT today by flagging off buses from the terminus.
Addressing a function held at ISBT complex under the aegis of Transport Department which marked the re-commissioning of the bus terminus, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said that ISBT Khuman Lampak constructed as a modern gateway to all parts of the country for the convenience of inter-State transporters was first commissioned in 2011 but it went out of operation from 2015/16 .
As a result, all the assets of ISBT were left unused.
Renovating and bringing the abandoned ISBT back to life testify the Government's commitment to public welfare, the Governor said.
He said that ISBT Khuman Lampak is not only a transport terminal but also a key link for connectivity with other States.
Re-activation of the ISBT will strengthen connectivity with different districts of the State, regions and neighbouring States, he said.
Ajay Kumar Bhalla said that surface transport is a critical pillar of economic and social development.
Appealing to all the people to keep ISBT Khuman neat and clean, he pointed out that all public infrastructure and assets are funded by public funds.
Effective operation of ISBT will improve logistics, reduce transportation inefficiency and strengthen supply chains, he said.
The Governor stated that the State Government is committed to undertake sustained efforts to upgrade ISBT Khuman Lampak to a world class transport hub, equipped with modern amenities, enhanced safety and passenger-friendly services.
The Governor also congratulated the State Transport Department for completing the revival of ISBT within a record self-imposed timeline of three months.
As a part of the function, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla opened District Transport Offices of Jiribam, Kakching, Noney and Pherzawl.
Later, the Governor flagged off State transport buses for 12 routes connecting different corners of Manipur.
Former Transport Minister Khashim Vashum, Transport Director Khumanthem Diana and many other top officials were also present at the function presided over by Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) Anurag Bajpai.
