Imphal, November 18 2024:
Several student bodies including the KSA, MSF and COCOMI Students' Front have demanded immediate dismissal of Senior SP (Combat) Nectar Sanjenbam for killing a protester and injuring another at Jiribam last night.
A press release issued by KSA Jiribam District Council said that the deceased victim Khundrakpam Athouba was its active member.
Demanding immediate dismissal of Nectar Sanjenbam immediately, the KSA warned that it would launch strong protest movements in association with the people of Jiribam if Nectar is not dismissed immediately.
Expressing deep shock over the killing of Khundrakpam Athouba and injuring Keisam Benson, MSF District Committee Jiribam too immediate termination of Nectar Sanjenbam.
It also demanded immediate repeal of AFSPA from all over Manipur.
Meanwhile, the COCOMI Students' Front has categorically stated that the State Government must bear responsibility for all the consequences if Senior SP (Combat) Nectar Sanjenbam is not terminated from service immediately.
Speaking to media persons at Khwairamband Ima Keithel today, COCOMI Students' Front coordinator Ningthoujam Dhanakumar said that they staged a protest rally at Jiribam yesterday demanding strongest action against all the people/organisations involved in the gruesome murder of six hostages including three women and three minors and denouncing reimposition of AFSPA in the areas covered by six police stations.
After talking with the Jiribam SP, the COCOMI Students' Front was holding a public meeting near Lamyanba Irabot's statue at Babupara, Jiribam when Nectar Sanjenbam came there and used highly disrespectful and offensive words against the aggrieved and protesting people.
As the people tried to talk with the retired army Colonel now serving as Senior SP (Combat) regarding the offensive words he used against them, Nectar Sanjenbam intentionally opened fire upon the people, killing a student and injuring another.
Whereas Nectar Sanjenbam did not take up any action against the Kuki-Zo-Hmar terrorists since he was posted at Jiribam, he intentionally opened fire upon the Meitei protesters, Dhanakumar said.
He said that there are records of Nectar Sanjenbam committing many excesses when he was serving in the Indian Army.
He then demanded immediate termination of Nectar Sanjenbam from the post of Senior SP (Combat), Manipur Police.
