Imphal, October 15 2025:
With tension simmering between two power centres within the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), the Congress party's Nationwide signature campaign "Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor" stands divided into two in some Assembly segments.
At the instruction of AICC leader Rahul Gandhi, the signature campaign was held in all the 60 Assembly segments of the State but in some Assembly segments, the campaign was divided into two parallel campaigns.
Many Congress workers are caught in a dilemma unable to decide which of the two parallel campaigns they should join.
In some Assembly segments, a number of Congress workers who are genuinely loyal to the party have been staying away from the two parallel campaigns altogether.
They have also expressed strong indignation over the apparent conflict within the Congress party.
The disgruntled Congress workers said that tension is rising within the Congress party over admission of ex-MLAs/individuals who contested previous elections on the tickets of other parties by MPCC president K Meghachandra without consulting the CLP, MLAs and party's office bearers in some Assembly segments where there are PCC members, Congress loyalists, ex-MLAs and candidates who contested the previous Assembly election on Congress tickets.
In some Assembly segments, CLP leader O Ibobi, Congress MLAs and party's office bearers who are loyal to him stayed away from the Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor campaign participated by K Meghachandra and his supporters.
Reciprocally, MPCC president K Meghachandra and his supporters stayed away from the signature campaign participated by former Chief Minister O Ibobi andhis loyalists.
One Congress leader from Bishnupur district disclosed that there are now two power centres within the Congress party and the rising tension between the two groups has greatly affected the party's activities.
When Congress workers went to one group, the other group felt bad, and this has demoralised a large number of party workers, the Congress leader said.
Meanwhile, one Congress leader has appealed to the AICC to resolve the MPCC's internal conflict and settle the growing tension at the earliest.
Pointing out that the 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly election is not very far off, the Congress leader appealed to the AICC to take up concrete steps from now on so as to strengthen the Congress party's position in the State.
Meanwhile, one MPCC leader told The Sangai Express that the internal conflict between the two power centres may be resolved-reconciled after the Diwali festival or the Bihar Assembly election.
Notably, MPCC president K Meghachandra not only admitted Wahengbam Rojit alias Bullet who contested the last Assembly election on JD(U) ticket in Kshetrigao AC in Congress party but also gave him the post of MPCC Sports Cell Chairman although there is ex-MLA Md Amin Shah as a PCC member in the same Assembly segment.
This move dismayed many leaders of Kshetrigao Block Congress Committee and created conflict within the Congress party.
Recently, a Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor campaign was held near the residence of Wahengbam Rojit alias Bullet at Porompat Thawanthaba Leikai together with Rojit alias Bullet himself.
The campaign was participated by MPCC president Kh Meghachandra but O Ibobi and other Congress leaders loyal to him stayed away from it.
A few days later, a similar campaign was held at Kshetri Bengoon Awang Leikai near the residence of ex-MLA Md Amin Shah.
There Ibobi and some Congress MLAs were present.
Speaking at the signature campaign, ex-MLA Md Fajur Rahim said that he never heard of the post "MPCC Sports Cell Chairman" during his long years as a Congress party loyalist.
He went on to say that Muslims will get Congress tickets in both Kshetrigao AC and Wabagai AC .
