Infection and death of chickens has also been reported from Ningombam, Langol, Iroishemba, Lamshang, Samurou, Yumnam Huidrom in Imphal West district.
A farmer from Thongju Ningomthong said 30 of his egg laying chickens suffered from the unknown disease and died suddenly before he could consult veterinary doctors.
He said many poultry farmers in the area have also been affected and incurred huge losses.
Amid the emerging report of the outbreak of the disease, it has been reported that some farmers have resorted to selling infected chickens at heavily discounted rates to cut losses.
For fear of infection, farmers are also supplying or selling chickens at discounted rates to vendors to cut losses.
At some places, chickens that weigh around 3-4 Kg have been sold as low as Rs 200 per head.
Even as the disease has affected poultry farmers across the valley, the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has not yet taken samples for testing, claimed some farmers.
Poultry farmers have urged the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department to immediately take actions to identify the disease and curb the outbreak.
