NIA quizzes former JNIMS Director, scribe

Imphal, May 15 2017: In connection with the different cases taken up against KCP (Poirei Meitei) by National Investigation Agency for extortion, bomb attack, kidnapping for ransom and others, the investigation agency interrogated a former Director of JNIMS and a reporter of an evening newspaper (Kangleipakki Meira) today.

According to reports, a team of the investigation agency headed by DSP Ranveer Tyagi along with the arrested Commander-in-Chief of KCP (Poirei Meitei), Khoirom Ranjit paid a surprise visit to the residence of former Director of JNIMS, Mutum Sha- mo at Lalambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikai and interrogated him for around one hour.

The team took Ranjit whose hands were cuffed inside the residential complex and asked Shamo whether he knew Ranjit before or not.

Ranjit's face was covered by a black cloth before leaving the area at around 3.30 pm.

When asked by media persons about the surprise visit and the interrogation, the former JNIMS Director said that the NIA team only asked him whether he knew Ranjit before or not.

Later, the investigation team went to the office of Kangleipakki Meira and interrogated one of its reporters who was earlier summoned and questioned with regard to a case registered by Special Cell, Delhi police against Ranjit.

The team collected some print out documents from a cyber cafe located near the newspaper's office in the presence of the reporter before leaving the office at around 5 pm.

Sources said the NIA team arrived in the State yesterday along with Kh Ranjit and his associate P Ibomcha for investigation of different cases registered against Ranjit and the outfit.

During interrogation, Ranjit had revealed that the gun attack laid at Ningthibi Restaurant located at Khurai Angom Leikai on February 20 of last year in which wife of the restaurant owner got killed and two customers were injured was carried out under his instruction.

The NIA team had visited the restaurant and gathered some information about the incident.

The team also went to Patsoi on the day of their arrival for investigation of a case.

It is likely that the NIA team might interrogate a legislator of the State Government in coming days regarding the cases.

It may be mentioned that a team of Special Cell, Delhi police arrested Khoirom Ranjit @ Rocky @ Great Macha (35) of Yairipok Laimanai, Thoubal district along with his companion Ingudam Sanatombi of Lamlai, Imphal East from Mayur Vihar, New Delhi on January 12 last.

On his disclosure, the team and Imphal East district commando apprehended one Pukhrambam Ibomcha along with the recovery of arms from his residence.

Ranjit was brought to Imphal in January for seven days for investigation of the cases.

The NIA team had summoned the former JNIMS Director and the reporter in the past.
