Imphal, July 11 2025:
From this session onwards, the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) is set to implement significant changes in the Class XI examination including the introduction of a grading system.
A workshop to discuss the subject was held at CC Higher Secondary School today titled "Reformation of Class XI Examination" .
The event was attended by principals and representatives from 229 schools across the State.
Speaking at the gathering, O Joy, Controller of Examination, COHSEM said that a grading system will be introduced from this session for Class XI exam but marks will also be awarded.
Elaborating on the grading system, he shared that the top scoring l/8th of students who pass a subject will receive A1 grade.
Similarly, the top 1/8th of the remaining students will receive A2 grade and so on.
Under this system, students with A1 grade in different subjects will not have necessarily scored the same marks or even the same range of marks.
The assigned grades will be different for different subjects based on overall students' performance, he explained.
While the result of Class XI exam was previously declared at different times by the respective schools, the COHSEM Controller of Examination said that from this session onwards the exam result will be announced for all schools at the same time.
In previous years, practical exams were conducted after the theory exams.
But from 2026, the practical exams will be held first, followed by the theoretical exams.
This reformation will help in ensuring that exam results are announced early and give the students a chance to start their Class XII academic session earlier too, said O Joy.
While mark sheets were issued by the respective schools in the past, COHSEM will be responsible for issuing the mark sheets of Class XI exam from this session onwards.
Additionally, in contrast to previous years, COHSEM representatives/flying squads will inspect the schools during the said examination and further scrutinize the answer sheets after the respective school teachers have analyzed them.
In the past, COHSEM had handed over the responsibilities of conducting the Class XI exam, result declaration and scrutiny of answer sheets entirely to the schools themselves.
However, from the 2025-2026 session, COHSEM will oversee and participate in the whole process in order to elevate the quality of the Class XI examination, said O Joy.
Saying that these reformations will bring positive changes to the students' academic life, he added that the steps were taken up under NEP 2020.Other notable dignitaries present at the event include COHSEM Chairman T Ojit, Chairman, COHSEM; Kh Ashikumar, Secretary, COHSEM; Dr E Iboyaima, Member, COHSEM; AS Josiah, Principal, Ukhrul Higher Secondary School and COHSEM Member; Dr Vinita Elangbam, Principal, TG Higher Secondary School and COHSEM Member; M Premjit, Professor, Mathematics Department, Manipur University and COHSEM Member; Dr Kh Dineshkumar, Associate Professor, DM College of Teacher Education and Kh Memtonbi, Principal, CC Higher Secondary School among others.
