Imphal, May 10 2025:
In what could be a significant development towards restoring peace and normalcy in the State, Kuki-Zo MLAs may hold talks with CSOs at Kangpokpi on May 19, 2025 .
Speaking to The Sangai Express, one Kuki legislator, who sought anonymity, said that all arrangements have been made for participation of nine Kuki-Zo MLAs as well as several Kuki-Zo CSOs at the meeting.
As MLA Vungzagin Valte is not in a position to attend the meeting, a nominee may represent him at the meeting.
Both Meitei and Kuki people long for peace and an end to the two year old crisis.
Reinstallation of a popular Government is a common desire of both the communities, the Kuki legislator said.
Saying that they have been working hard to bring normalcy and install a popular Government in the State, the legislator said a meeting was held between MLAs and CSOs at Kangpokpi on April 23, 2025 .
The possibility of some elements with vested interest inciting animosity and fanning the violence cannot be ruled out, the MLA said.
Kuki-Zo MLAs and Kuki CSOs may hold talks on May 19 to identify and remove all the obstacles to the path of peace and normalcy, the MLA said.
According to the legislator, the proposed meeting was earlier scheduled on May 9, 2025 but it could not materialise.
Again, May 18 was chosen for the proposed meeting but one key organisation has a major event on the same day.
As such, the meeting has been fixed on May 19 .
After the imposition of President's Rule in the State following resignation of Chief Minister N Biren, Kuki CSOs have a desire to elect a new Chief Minister who is acceptable to both Kuki and Meitei.
Giving a hint to their desire, one Kuki CSO leader proposed a Meitei MLA's name to BJP North East Coordinator Sambit Patra for the post of Chief Minister during a meeting between Sambit Patra and Kukis CSOs at Kangpokpi on May 6 .
A day earlier, Sambit Patra went to Churachandpur and talked with leaders of Zoumi Council and Kuki-Zo Council.
At Kangpokpi, the BJP North East Coordinator held talks with the leaders of CoTU and other Kuki CSOs.
At the meeting, Sambit Patra talked about reinstating N Biren as the Chief Minister, sources said.
Notably, Sambit Patra told media that his visit to the State was a personal affair, not an official visit.
