Imphal, August 05 2025:
Almost all roads leading to JNIMS Hospital Porompat are riddled with potholes, causing great inconvenience to commuters and locals.
The roads at Nongmeibung, Soibam Leikai, New Checkon, Old Checkon, Khanglabung, Porompat to Kongpal road, Ayangpalli road, the stretch that passes through Shree Shree Govindajee Temple and almost all roads south of the Palace Compound are in pathetic conditions.
While almost all the roads in Imphal are full of potholes and need repairing, the Government authorities must pay special attention to the roads leading to Porompat JNIMS Hospital, said a man who commutes to the hospital daily.
Minor road accidents have occurred and people have been hurt.
The rugged and pothole-filled roads are posing a danger to the general public, especially to ailing individuals visiting JNIMS hospital, he said.
The roads are especially dangerous for pregnant women and emergency patients, added the man, who has a family member receiving treatment at the hospital.
While the conditions of the roads weren't good earlier also, it deteriorated further due to repeated floods that occurred in the recent months, he added.
The roads must be repaired immediately for the safety of the commuters and the public, he said.
A local of Porompat lamented that the roads have been ignored since the start of the violent conflict between the Meiteis and the Kukis in May 2023.While the roads weren't repaired timely, incessant rainfalls and frequent flash floods have further deteriorated the condition of the roads, he said.
Shingling was done on some roads recently to mend the potholes, but rains have washed away the gravels, causing more inconvenience to the commuters, said the man.
Authorities concerned have, time and again, assured to lay concrete roads in all localities, but these assurances have not been converted into action, he said, urging the Government to repair and reconstruct the roads at the earliest and ease the sufferings.
