Imphal, May 05 2026:
The strategic road in Imphal East which passes through key institutions such as JNIMS Hospital, Porompat Police Station, and DC Office, is in a deplorable condition, causing significant difficulties for commuters.
The Sangai Express observed numerous potholes, both large and small, scattered along the route starting from the Old Checkon area.
Locals reported that the situation becomes even more hazardous during rainfall as water accumulates in the potholes, making navigation difficult.
Several accidents have occurred while trying to pass through the damaged stretch, they said.

They also stated that regular commuters manage to avoid the potholes due to familiarity with the road but the accumulation of water poses a serious danger to visitors and those travelling on emergencies.
Irom Ibomcha, a resident of Nongmeibung, stated that the road has been in a deplorable condition for a long time.
He added that residents had previously blocked the road in protest after repeated requests to the Government for repairs went unheeded.
Saying that the road was blacktopped following the protest, he added that the road, however, has deteriorated again due to poor quality.
Imphal East DC and other top Government officials also travel along the road every day and they are well aware of its condition, he said and questioned why the road remains unrepaired.
He also stated that many people visit JNIMS Hospital daily, but the potholes continue to cause significant difficulties for commuters.
Stating that a meeting of local Meira Paibi groups was convened yesterday to discuss the road's condition, he added that the road may be blocked again to protest the Government's inaction.
He urged the Government to understand the plight of the people and repair the road as soon as possible.
