Imphal, May 05 2025:
The High Court of Manipur has reserved its judgement on a plea challenging the election of MLA Sagolshem Kebi Devi in the 2022 State Assembly elections from Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC .
The election petition was filed by NPP candidate Soibam Subhaschandra Singh alleging there were irregularities in the affidavit BJP MLA Sagolshem Kebi Devi filed for the election.
The petition accused S Kebi of not disclosing her official name "Sagolshem Sonalika Devi" in the election affidavit she filed for the 2022 election.
It also accused her of furnishing wrong information regarding her educational qualification and properties her husband owns.
It sought the Court to declare S Kebi's election null and void and declare Soibam Subhaschandra as the winner.
In the election petition, S Subhaschandra alleged that the BJP candidate used the name "Sagolshem Kebi Devi" instead of her real and official name "Sagolshem Sonalika Devi", as per her academic record.
While S Kebi submitted that she studied upto Class X at Little Master English Higher Secondary School, Samurou, the petition alleged that there are no records of any student by the name "Sagolshem Kebi" in the school in 2005 as per an RTI report.
The petitioner further alleged that S Kebi had falsely stated Class X as her highest educational qualification in the affidavit.
S Kebi's highest qualification under her real name, as recorded in the school is Class IX, claimed the petitioner.
Justice Ahanthem Bimol heard the case today and reserved the judgement.
