Total of 203 weapons recovered in Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel and Churachandpur

In a major crackdown on illegal arms, security forces have seized a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives including 203 weapons during extensive search operations in the hill districts of Manipur from midnight of July 3 to the morning of July 4.The joint teams of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles/Army and CAPFs made the recovery from multiple sites in the interior and suspected areas of Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel and Churachandpur districts during the coordinated operations, according to a statement issued by the office of the Director General of Police, Manipur.
The seized arms and ammunition include 21 Insas rifles, 11 AK series rifles, 26 SLRs, 2 snipers, 3 carbines, 17 Pt 303, 2 51MM Mor, 2 MA assault rifles, 3 M79 grenade launchers, 1 rifle with scope, 18 Single Shot Breech Loaded, 11 Single Barrel Bolt Action, 6 pistols, 1 point 22 rifle, 2 lathode, 25 Single Bore, 3 pistols (country-made), 4 muzzle loaded rifle, 6 Single Bore, 38 Pompi and 1 lathode.
The seized ammunition and explosives include 29 nos of 5.56 mm, 80 nos of 7.62 mm, 30 IEDS, 10 grenades, 9 Pompi shells and 2 lathode grenades.
Manipur Police urged the public to cooperate with security forces and to promptly report any suspicious activity or information related to illegal arms to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room.
It is worth recalling that combined forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including 328 weapons and 591 magazines on the intervening night of June 13 and 14 from the valley districts of the State.
Earlier on March 7, following the call of the Governor 246 arms were given up during a function held at the 1st MR complex in Imphal.
A report from the Hindustan Times said that senior police officials remain in close coordination with all security stake-holders to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner, aimed at restoring normalcy, maintaining public order, and safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.
