Drugs worth more than Rs 5 crore seized

Imphal, November 27 2019:
Officers of Anti Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal, seized a huge quantity of WY tablets and heroin, worth Rs 5,41,60,000 (in the International market) from a drug peddler from Wangbal Langkhongpat, along Imphal-Moreh road, yesterday evening.
Displaying the arrested individual along with the seized drugs before media persons at Customs Office, Sangakpham, today afternoon, P Roben, Superintendent, Anti Smuggling, said that acting on a specific information about the transportation of drugs along the Imphal-Moreh road yesterday, officers of Anti Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, carried out a vehicle check at the route.
During the check, an Alto car was detained for checking at Wangbal Langkhongpat at around 4 pm and the team found 40,000 W/Y tablets concealed inside 59 soap cases and 708 grams of heroin, worth a total of Rs 5,41,60,000, inside the vehicle.
The driver was identified as one Md Illyas Khan (21) s/o Md Ashraf Ali of Sangaiyumpham, Puleipokpi Mathak.
Md Illyas Khan was arrested and the drugs were seized along with the car, he said adding that further investigation has been started to nab other individuals involved in the case.
