Imphal, December 02 2016:
The All Manipur United Club Organization (AMUCO) has asked the State Government to clarify whether it is going to announce Sadar Hill and Jiribam as full fledged districts or not.
It also warned that the State Government and BJP-led Central Government should be held responsible if any kind of communal confrontation breaks out due to the ongoing economic blockade and counter economic blockade.
This was stated by AMUCO president Ph Deban during a press meet held at their Kwakeithel office on the month long economic blockade and the retaliatory counter economic blockade.
He said that after the 48 hours total shut down in the hill districts called in protest against the State Government's purported move to create Sadar Hills and Jiribam districts, the indefinite economic blockade was imposed on National Highways from November 1 .
Since then, all sections of people have been reeling under extreme misery with prices of all essential commodities escalating continuously.
The situation was worsened after Prime Minister Narendra Modi demonetised Rs 500 and 1000 notes.
Observing that some people living in the valley area have imposed counter economic blockade in retaliation to UNC's economic blockade, Deban said that BJP Government at the Centre and the State's Congress Government invited the counter economic blockade by their failure to resolve the issue of UNC's economic blockade in time.
He then deprecated both the economic blockade as well as the counter economic blockade as inhuman which amounted to indiscriminate human rights violation.
There is a growing fear about possible eruption of communal tension among different communities if the economic blockade and the retaliatory counter economic blockade continue any longer and the situation has been further aggravated on account of uploading of pictures and videos on Whatsapp and Facebook which have been eliciting provocative and malicious comments.
He appealed to all the people to refrain from posting such provocative comments on social media sites.
He also said that the incident that took place at Kakching yesterday was very unfortunate and appealed to all sections of people to remain calm.
He went on to ask the United Naga Council whether their agitation was launched against the State Government or the people of the State or truck drivers who are working day and night transporting essential items along the National Highways.
Deban appealed to the UNC reconsider their mode of agitation.
Congress and BJP should work sincerely to resolve the issue keeping in mind sentiments of all sections of people.
Rather than engaging in political mudslinging and playing blame game, Congress and BJP must work to restore normalcy in the State.
Arrest of UNC president and publicity secretary will not bring any solution to the issue.
The State Government need to adopt a concrete decision on the issue, asserted the AMUCO president.
He categorically stated that there are no exclusive domains for Naga, Kuki, Meitei Pangal or Meitei in Manipur as they had been living together since time immemorial.
