One-day awareness programme on Child Protection held at Longmai

Noney, May 30 2026:
The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Noney, under the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with the One Stop Centre (OSC), Noney, organised a one-day awareness programme on Child Protection at Tazei Public Higher Secondary School, Longmai II, on Saturday.
According to a release issued by the DCPU, Noney, the programme was aimed at creating awareness among students on various child protection issues and promoting a safe, supportive and child-friendly environment within the school community.
During the programme, resource persons Lamana Riamei, Centre Administrator of OSC, Noney; M Poukindin, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Noney; and Buansimliu Grace, Psycho Counsellor at OSC, Noney, sensitised students on key child protection laws and issues.
Topics covered included the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, prevention of substance abuse, and the importance of reporting cases of child abuse and exploitation.
As a major outcome of the programme, a Children's Club on Child Protection was constituted in the school.
Members of the club took an oath to serve as peer educators, watch groups and campaigners for child rights within the school campus.
The newly formed club will function under the guidance of designated teacher mentors and in coordination with the DCPU, Noney, to observe, support, educate and refer child protection concerns whenever necessary.
The programme concluded with a poster campaign led by the members of the Children's Club across the school campus, school gate and nearby shops to spread awareness about Childline 1098 and the importance of ensuring child safety and protection.
