Govt nods to boundary commission

Imphal, June 29 2017:
The State Government has given its consent to set up a one-member district boundary commission and named retired Justice M Binoykumar to demarcate boundaries of the seven new districts created by the previous Government .
After the seven newly districts namely Jiribam, Kakching, Tengnoupal, Pherzawl, Kangpokpi, Kamjong and Noney were created, the State has now 16 districts in total .
Together with the creation of the seven new districts, the previous Government set up offices of ADC Mao and ADC Jessami .
After the State Government has given its consent to set up the one-member district boundary commission, terms of reference of the same commission are being worked out, informed a well placed source .
Notably, the United Naga Council (UNC) has been demanding revocation of the Government order which created the seven new districts particularly Kangpokpi and Jiribam .
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian and Education Minister Th Radheshyam would hold a meeting with the UNC at the political level on July 10 at Ukhrul .
On the other hand, the State Government has been considering to constitute a boundary committee headed by the Revenue Commissioner as chairman to ascertain the exact boundary of Loktak Lake .
Bishnupur DC, Kakching DC, Imphal West DC, officials of Agriculture Department, Forest Department and LDA would be incorporated as members of the committee, added the source.
