Meira Paibis condemn Keishamthong shooting incident

Imphal, January 29 2026: The Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai Nupi Apunba Meira Marup has strongly condemned a brazen shooting incident that rocked a residential area in the early hours of January 26.Addressing a press conference today at the Manipur Press Club, Oinam Likla Leima, general secretary of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai Nupi Apunba Meira Marup, stated that carrying out such an act in a densely populated area in the early hours of the morning, causing fear among the residents, is unacceptable and should not be repeated by anyone in the future.

She informed that the incident took place at around 2:30 am on January 26 at the home of Brajabashimayum Upendro alias Memo Sharma in Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai Lane No 8.She alleged that three individuals led by one Keisham Gulson of Keishamthong Irom Pukhri Achouba Leikai stormed into the house of Memo Sharma and threatened his family, including women and children, with a firearm.

She also alleged that the group physically assaulted the family members of Memo Sharma and fired one round of ammunition.

The incident was reportedly sparked by a dispute between Gulson and Sharma at a wedding function a few days prior.

What's more shocking, Likla Leima pointed out, is that Gulson filed a police case against Sharma after perpetrating the violence.

The Meira Paibi leader urged the community to reject such acts of violence and intimidation, emphasizing that no one is above the law.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents demanding swift action against the perpetrators.
