Imphal, December 28 2025: The Rhythms of Manipur has expressed profound sorrow and condolence over the untimely demise of its drummer & composer Shamurailatpam Mahanta Sharma.

Mahanta Sharma, a resident of Sagolband Thangjam Leirak, breathed his last on Sunday morning due to an illness.

He was 57 .

He is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.

Apart from being a performer of Rhythms of Manipur, Late Mahanta Sharma was a respected Manipuri actor and an accomplished 'Pung' artist.

He completed his Post-Graduate in 'Meitei Pung' from the JNMDA, Imphal.

Members of the Rhythms of Manipur extended their solidarity to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace in the heavenly abode.
