International Day of Older Persons observed with health camp at Phubala

Bishnupur, July 28 2026:
The International Day of Older Persons was observed at Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Phubala, on Tuesday with a free health camp and awareness programmes organised by the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Cell and the District Health Society, Bishnupur.
The programme was held under the theme, "Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-being and Our Right" .
As part of the observance, free health consultations and screenings were provided to around 1,500 people, including senior citizens of Phubala village.
A function to honour elderly residents was later held at Loktak Maru Harao Shanglen, where senior citizens were felicitated with gifts in recognition of their contributions to society.
The programme was attended by Chief Medical Officer, Bishnupur, Dr L Raichandra; District Nodal Officer, National Programme for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE), Dr Reshma Sougaijam; and District Nodal Officer, National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Dr Johnson Moirangthem, among others.
A one-day Tobacco-Free Village awareness camp under the National Tobacco Control Programme was also organised as part of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr L Raichandra highlighted the importance of regular health check-ups for senior citizens.
He noted that many elderly people find it difficult to visit health centres due to age-related challenges and said such outreach camps are organised to bring essential healthcare services closer to them while promoting healthy ageing.
