Quantum Computing Workshop begins at MU

A three-day Quantum Computing Workshop, organised by the Department of Computer Science, Manipur University, was inaugurated on Wednesday with backing from the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) and technical support from IIT Kharagpur.
Delivering the keynote address, Workshop Coordinator and Associate Professor Dr Khumukcham Robindro Singh said quantum computing is set to revolutionise artificial intelligence, cryptography, healthcare, scientific research, optimisation, and material science.
He called for greater academic exposure for students, researchers, and faculty to keep pace with the fast-emerging field.
Dr Robindro thanked Prof Sonjoy Majumdar and Prof Sabyashachi Mishra for their academic inputs, Prof Somnath Roy for coordinating the programme, and Aashish Kuvelkar for facilitating NSM funding.
Head of the Computer Science Department Dalton Meitei Thounaojam urged students and scholars to explore quantum research and stressed stronger interdisciplinary collaboration.
Resource persons Prof Majumdar and Prof Mishra highlighted quantum computing's potential to solve problems beyond the capacity of classical computers, calling it a key driver of future innovation.
Faculty, research scholars, students, and university officials attended the inaugural session.
Organisers also acknowledged the support of the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Dean of the School of Mathematical & Physical Sciences.
The workshop will continue for two more days with technical sessions and hands-on interactions to build capacity in the domain.
